PDF Booklet Maker & Imposition

Arrange PDF pages into a foldable booklet layout (imposition), split thick books into signatures, and print effortlessly.

Calculate the page order first. To create a print-ready file, choose a PDF. Processing stays in your browser.

Choose the finished page size first

Folded A4 paper becomes A5; folded A3 becomes A4. If the source PDF is A4 and you print on A4, the text will appear smaller. The font itself does not change; the whole page is scaled.

1 to 1200. The count updates automatically when you choose a PDF.
Long documents are divided into separate booklets for folding.
Rotated pages will be read sideways in the finished booklet.
Makes content larger, but may cut off page numbers or text near the edge. Check every sheet.

Before printing
  1. Use paper matching the finished PDF. Select two-sided printing at 100% scale, and turn off Booklet mode in your printer settings.
  2. Print only PDF pages 1–2 of one booklet on a single sheet. Fold it and check that both sides read correctly. If the back is upside down, change the duplex flip edge.
  3. Check text size, cropped edges, and page order. Then print the booklets one at a time and fold each separately.

Print margins and paper feed vary by printer. On-screen checks cannot replace a test print.

Print at 100% with Booklet mode off, then fold. Pages 1–8 should be in order and the arrows should point up. Try flipping on the short edge first; if the back is upside down, change the printer setting.

This site does not detect your printer. Choose it in the print dialog.

How It Works

  1. Select your target paper size: A4 paper folded into an A5 booklet, or A3 paper folded into an A4 booklet.
  2. Upload your PDF or enter total page count. For large books, split into signatures of 16, 32, or 64 pages.
  3. Generate imposition PDF files for automatic duplex or manual flip printing.
  4. Print a one-sheet test proof (pages 1-2) at 100% scale without scaling to verify margins and paper feed orientation.

About PDF Booklet Maker

Each physical sheet holds four book pages (two front, two back). If your total page count is not divisible by 4, blank padding pages are appended automatically.

Supports both automatic duplex printers (duplex sequence) and manual single-pass duplex printers (separate front/back PDF downloads).

All page reorganization occurs strictly client-side via WebAssembly pdf-lib. Your proprietary manuscripts and files never leave your computer.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if my PDF has 10 pages?

The booklet generator automatically adds 2 blank pages at the end to make it a multiple of 4 (12 pages on 3 sheets).

Should I also enable 'Booklet' mode in my printer driver?

No! This tool already imposes pages into the correct sequence. Enabling booklet mode again in printer settings would scramble the page order.

Can I split a large book into multiple signatures?

Yes! You can split thick volumes into 16, 32, or 64-page signatures for professional bookbinding.
